Isobel stumbled through the bathroom door and flicked on the row of incandescent lights above her mirror. She squinted at her dishevelled appearance, with her black hair sticking out at all angles, her eyes red and puffy. She rubbed her cheek where her binder's zipper had pressed into it, leaving its distinct pattern blazing red across her face. She had fallen asleep on her physics homework, again.
Noticing the slimy coating on her tongue, she reached for the toothbrush in the cup by the sink. She smeared a small gob of the swirly green and white toothpaste on the bristles and raised it towards her open mouth. She rubbed the bris

The WallThe wall rose up in front of her, the white paint gleaming beneath the fluorescent lights to show the texture of the bricks. Her eyes picked out patterns and shapes in the shadows and highlights of each hole and groove; first a bear, then a seashell, a row of smiling faces, a crocodile. Coming in and out of focus, the shapes gradually grew less and less distinct as they faded back into the blur of general whiteness. The wall had refused to give her an answer.
